Episode description: Paradoxically, there is little research about our cities. In episode 28 of Light Talks, ETHZ Professor Hubert Klumpner shares his decade-long expertise on the topic of urbanisation, primarily from a southern perspective. He is an architect and urban planner, and as a founder and CEO of Zurich-based Urbanthinktank_next (uttnext), he is considered a pioneer of socio-ecological design. Giving insights into his work, Klumpner also addresses the power of light to create safety, and light as a social tool. He talks about how temporary festival architecture is generating a new type of urbanisation and how a digital twin of urbanised regions is helpful.
