The studio's objective is to design a botanical garden in Guatemala on a site of unique cultural, climatic and geological conditions that also contains a rich tradition of indigenous medicinal plants use. Today, not only is this knowledge and practice under threat, but climatic and socioeconomic changes are even threatening certain plants with extinction. Botanical gardens can be a refuge that keeps endangered knowledge, plants and rituals alive. The new botanical garden aims to honor and build upon these traditions, creating spaces where ancient
wisdom informs modern design.
