The course aims to use diverse qualitative research methods and practical recording tools to interrogate the notions of place-making, map-making, and socio-spatial navigation through a multi- disciplinary lens including urbanism, social research and media use. Through a combination of practical exercises in 3D digital modeling, video and audio techniques, this course aims to equip students with the basic tools and core principles to create short but complex portraits of urban space through innovative forms of mapping.
Each semester, students visit various field sites, and use widely available recording tools and modeling / editing software to embed video and audio into animated, 3D digital models to create short video works of about 3-5 minutes.
